American idol top 10.Sanjaya Sports A Mohawk
For the American Idol top ten performance show, the theme was songs by No Doubt and songs that inspired Gwen Stefani. Lakisha Jones performed “Last Dance.” Randy Jackson said “It’s good to see you make a change and rock it.” Paula Abdul said “Donna Summers is not an easy artist to start out with, and you did her proud.” Simon Cowell said “It’s the Lakisha who I loved three or four weeks ago, coming back here, putting your mark back on this competition, and a great vocal.”
Chris Sligh performed “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.” Randy Jackson said “Rhythm-wise, man, it made it a train wreck for me.” Paula Abdul said “Vocally, it sat really nice in the tonal part of your voice so that was a good choice, but man you’ve got to hear that beat.” Simon Cowell said “I thought it was a mess to be honest with you, Chris.”
Gina Glocksen performed “I’ll Stand By You.” Randy Jackson said “I thought this was one of your best performances ever.” Paula Abdul said “I love the fact that you’re improving each week and you’re coming into your own as an artist.” Simon Cowell said “Gina, it wasn’t one of your best performances, it was your best performance.”
Sanjaya Malakar performed “Bath Water.” Randy Jackson said “Listen, the hairdo is definitely interesting. I like the kind of Mohawk look.” Paula Abdul said “To watch it on stage and not go for it, it’s kind of like we’re going ah, come on.“ Simon Cowell said “I presume there was no mirror in your dressing room tonight.” Sanjaya replied “You’re just jealous that you couldn’t pull it off.” Simon said “I couldn’t I agree. Sanjaya, I don’t think it matters anymore what we say, actually. I genuinely don’t. I think you are in your own universe and if people like you, good luck.”
Haley Scarnato performed “True Colors.” Randy Jackson said “It was just kind of alright for me.” Paula Abdul said “You held like more of an adult contemporary performance to that, and it didn’t stay younger, and I think that you should aim to be more contemporary.” Simon Cowell said “I think it was sweet but forgettable really.”
Phil Stacey performed “Every Breathe You Take.” Randy Jackson said “I actually kind of liked that, dog.” Paula Abdul said “I would just work on building a little more character in the verses, other than that I think it was a real good performance.” Simon Cowell said “This may surprise you, Phil, but I actually thought that was very good.”
Melinda Doolittle performed “Heaven Knows.” Randy Jackson said “You actually are living the words, that’s what a real singer does.” Paula Abdul said “I love when people tell stories when they’re singing, and you do it in spades.” Simon Cowell said “Vocally, however, as usual you were outstanding, hate the outfit.”
Blake Lewis performed “Love Song.” Randy Jackson said “I liked it, I wasn’t jumping up and down, but I liked it.” Paula Abdul said “I think you’re the dark horse. I think you can sail in, and I would love to see you in the finale.” Simon Cowell said “Definitely, the strongest guy in the competition, Blake, that’s for sure.”
Jordin Sparks performed “Hey Baby.” Randy Jackson said “You could literally sing anything, you would be a great recording artist, and that was brilliant.” Paula Abdul said “I love seeing you in this kind of mode.” Simon Cowell said “I think you are probably the most improved contestant we’ve seen in terms of the last few weeks.”
Chris Richardson performed “Don’t Speak.” Randy Jackson said “You actually can sing the runs, so I enjoy when you do that man.” Paula Abdul said “You’re good, Chris, you’re good.” Simon Cowell said “As Randy said, I quite like the arrangement. However, I wasn’t crazy about the vocal.”
So who will be going home next?
